Little is known of Kirby's childhood.

Lost in Turnback CaveEdit

When Kirby and his brother, Gizmo Chin Chilla, were exploring the Spring Path, Robotnik had sent Superbot, Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts out in the Egg Viper to capture some Mobians. They came across the Spring Path and found Kirby and Gizmo, who promptly fled into a nearby cave. The robots exited the Egg Viper and followed the chinchillas into the cave.

The cave actually happened to be Turnback Cave, the home of the legendary Renegade Pokemon, Giratina. Kirby and Gizmo were lost in the cave, but the robots were lost, too. Kirby and Gizmo managed to find the room which resembled an old, decrepit cemetery, containing Giratina. Then the robots came inside Giratina's room. The two chinchilla brothers backed away from the oncoming robots, but backed right into the crypt where Giratina was standing. The Pokemon roared and sent Kirby and Gizmo running in fright. But Superbot used one of his collar whips and captured Gizmo. Then everyone was forced to run as Giratina burst from its crypt.

Captured by Robotnik's ForcesEdit

Outside of Turnback Cave, Superbot dragged Gizmo into the Egg Viper, with Kirby following. Inside the Egg Viper, Kirby attempted to rescue his brother but failed and was thrown into the same cage as Gizmo.

Later, on the Egg Carrier (which was still located in the Red Mountain region), the two chinchillas were supposed to be brought to Robotnik, but the Knothole Freedom Fighters appeared to rescue them.

Rescued by the Knothole Freedom FightersEdit

While most of the Knothole Freedom Fighters distracted the robots, Dulcy's job was to bite through the leashes and rescue the two chinchilla brothers. She put the unconscious Kirby in her pouch and Gizmo on her back, and flew back down to the ground to where Chuki Fu-Fu, Rotor the Walrus and Mighty the Armadillo were (they had to stay behind because Dulcy and Tails couldn't carry everybody). Kirby had woken up during the trip, and he and Gizmo introduced themselves. Dulcy then took Chuki, Kirby, Gizmo, Rotor and Mighty onto the Egg Carrier to help the other Freedom Fighters (however, this battle also marked the beginning of Sonic's first trip to Earth).

Kirby is brave and more than willing to jump into the fray, much unlike his quiet, calmer brother, Gizmo Chin Chilla. But Kirby is also afraid of heights.
